Community Focus
As a second arm to the business we have developed an exciting and innovative community program, which allows pupils to continue to experience the many benefits of the SkillWales framework, outside of the classroom.
Our school holiday camps have been designed to meet individual community needs by focusing on social, economic and geographical features in the area.
Through consultation with children via local organisations and initiatives, we are able to develop services, which enhance current provision and build upon the children’s existing skill and knowledge base.
Examples of Camps available include:
- Rugby
- Football
- Cricket
- Performing Arts
- Swimming
- Home Economics
At SkillWales we are passionate about promoting community and family interaction and are especially keen to provide a specialist service in Community 1st areas.
By utilising community venues for the delivery of our camps we are able to assist local people in overcoming barriers such as transport issues.
Through successful collaboration with Community 1st teams, many of our camps are fully grant funded which means that families who may not usually have the means to access similar services are able to experience the many health and social benefits our camps provide.
Sign Posting
One of our objectives as a company is to continue to provide support and encouragement to camp participants by sign posting them into other community initiatives or local clubs.
We feel that having raised their aspirations, it is vital that we provide children with the opportunity to continue to develop their skills and confidence.
We aim to do this by identifying gaps in provision and developing suitable exit routes where they don’t already exist.
Role Models
Where possible we employ local coaches who posses an understanding of the social fabric of the area and have experienced similar barriers to participation.
Our coaches become positive role models for the children, helping to raise their aspirations and reinforce the positive outcomes derived from good behavior and commitment.
As our coaches are all experienced and knowledgeable in their field they are also ideally placed to identify up and coming talent and are able to assist individuals in accessing the relevant pathways for development.
Social Conscience
